World Gaming (WG), the organizer behind ICE Barcelona, has announced a new initiative: an Indie Game Zone set to debut at the 2027 event. This distinctive area will be located within the newly launched Technology and Innovation Hall and aims to highlight independent game studios.
The Indie Game Zone will offer a unique opportunity for early-stage developers to showcase their original casino and iGaming content directly to global operators and industry decision-makers.
Focused on emerging talent, the zone will cater to studios that have been operational for a decade or less and have yet to achieve the prominence of established suppliers. WG aims to provide these smaller creators with a platform to present innovative game concepts and new intellectual property.
Studios interested in participating can lease modular "pods" starting at €12,500. Each pod includes a customizable cabinet, a TV display, logo placement, seating, a 500K electrical socket, and a profile listing on the ICE website. Moreover, exhibitors will benefit from guided stand tours and promotional exposure through ICE's marketing channels, which includes a feature of three games in an Indie Games Showcase campaign and inclusion in the Slots News newsletter.
Alex Pratt, Group Managing Director at WG, emphasized the Zone's purpose, stating that it is intended to provide emerging studios with increased visibility at ICE. "The Indie Game Zone is about giving genuinely exciting new studios a real platform at ICE, the kind of visibility that used to take years to earn." He continued, "We built this because the industry's next big thing is often coming from teams nobody's heard of yet, and ICE should be the place where operators and decision-makers find them first."
To qualify for the Indie Game Zone, WG specified that applicants must have been in operation for 10 years or less, cannot currently exhibit at ICE or iGB Live, must not be subsidiaries of larger casino game providers, and should have games or concepts ready for presentation.
Applications for the Indie Game Zone at ICE 2027 are currently open. This new area is described as a haven for future developers expected to make waves in the industry over the next five years. Attendees will find the Zone situated in Hall 7, an area dedicated to gaming technology innovation and fresh ideas. ICE has designed this hall to reflect industry evolution, thus creating a fortified platform for enterprise technology, AI, payments, infrastructure, fintech, and groundbreaking iGaming innovations. The Indie Game Zone will serve as a stage for demonstrating prototypes and live game builds to operator delegates.
