World Gaming (WG), the organizer of ICE Barcelona, has announced the introduction of an Indie Game Zone for the 2027 show. This dedicated space, located within the newly created Technology and Innovation Hall, aims to highlight independent game studios.
The Indie Game Zone will serve as a platform for early-stage developers to showcase their original casino and iGaming games to a global audience of operators and industry leaders.
Focusing on emerging talent, the zone targets studios that have been active for ten years or less and that have not yet gained the recognition or scale of established suppliers. WG aims to provide these smaller studios with a chance to present new intellectual property and innovative game concepts.
Studios looking to participate can lease modular “pods” starting from €12,500, which include features such as a branded cabinet, TV display, logo placement, stools, a 500K electrical socket, and a profile listing on the ICE website. Additionally, exhibitors will have opportunities for promotion, including guided stand tours and features in ICE marketing channels. This promotion will include a three-game spotlight in an Indie Games Showcase campaign and inclusion in the Slots News newsletter.
According to Alex Pratt, Group Managing Director at WG, the Indie Game Zone is intended to enhance visibility for budding studios at ICE. "The Indie Game Zone is about giving genuinely exciting new studios a real platform at ICE, the kind of visibility that used to take years to earn. We built this because the industry’s next big thing is often coming from teams nobody’s heard of yet, and ICE should be the place where operators and decision makers find them first," he stated.
WG has outlined eligibility criteria for applicants wishing to participate in the Indie Game Zone; they must have been operating for ten years or less, must not currently exhibit at ICE or iGB Live, cannot be subsidiaries of larger casino games providers, and should have games or concepts ready for presentation.
Applications for this dedicated zone are now open, emphasizing that the Indie Game Zone is for developers who are expected to become notable in the next five years. Attendees will discover the zone in the new Hall 7, which is geared towards showcasing gaming tech innovations and fresh concepts. WG describes Hall 7 as a space that reflects the evolution of the industry, aiming to create a stronger platform for enterprise technology, AI, payments, infrastructure, fintech, and new iGaming innovations. The zone will enable participants to demonstrate prototypes and live game builds to operator delegates.
