Bet365 Opposes Brazil's Online Betting Ban

Bet365 has voiced its strong opposition to the recent betting ban imposed in Brazil, asserting that it violates the country's Constitution. The company cautions that this ban could steer customers toward illegal gambling platforms rather than regulated services. In a statement given to The iGaming Europe, Bet365 expressed disappointment and voiced serious concerns over the implications this presidential decree may have on consumers.

A spokesperson for Bet365 remarked, "We are disappointed and deeply concerned for the ongoing welfare of our customers caused by the contents of the presidential decree banning online betting and gaming in Brazil. We are firmly of the view that this decree is unconstitutional and will only serve to push customers away from the regulated sector to the unsafe illegal black market online which pays no tax and has no standards on responsible gaming. Bet365 supports the trade bodies with their legal challenges to this decision. We are committed to supporting our customers through this time of uncertainty."

In February 2025, Bet365 received authorization to operate in the Brazilian gambling market, being one of 21 online gambling firms licensed by the Secretariat of Prizes and Bets. The licensing fee was R$30 million, granting them the right to operate for five years.

The regulations outlined in Brazilian Provisional Measure No. 1.394, which was published on October 1, 2025, establish a 30-day period for license validity, with no refunds available for the licensing fees paid. The new law takes immediate effect but is subject to repeal unless it is approved by Congress within 120 days, excluding parliamentary recesses. The outcome of legal actions and the congressional process will ultimately determine the future of online gambling companies like Bet365 in Brazil.
