The International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) has unveiled insights from its 2025 Sports Betting Integrity Report, which relies on data from H2 Gambling Capital. The report predicts substantial growth for Africa’s gaming market, with total Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR) expected to rise from $3.5 billion in 2021 to $19.4 billion by 2030. Online betting alone is anticipated to contribute $16.4 billion to this figure.
As this market expands and regulatory frameworks become more sophisticated, ensuring the integrity of both sports and betting practices is crucial for sustainable development. This emphasizes the significance of Altenar's recent partnership with IBIA.
IBIA stands as a global, not-for-profit organization dedicated to maintaining the integrity of sports betting. The association is comprised of more than 90 companies and 200 brands in the betting industry. Through its comprehensive monitoring efforts, intelligence sharing, and collaboration with operators, regulators, and sports organizations, IBIA plays a critical role in protecting regulated betting markets.
For Altenar, joining IBIA signifies a commitment to contribute to this essential industry initiative while enhancing its sportsbook offerings in African markets. The company combines a versatile sportsbook platform with expertise in local markets and the ability to cater to diverse regulatory needs.
By being a part of IBIA, Altenar gains access to a broader network of betting operators focused on identifying and mitigating integrity risks. This connection is particularly beneficial as Altenar seeks to expand throughout Africa, where regulatory environments are evolving at varying paces, making cross-border collaboration vital.
Joining IBIA also underscores Altenar’s standing as a reputable sportsbook technology provider, highlighting its dedication to ensuring market integrity and sustainable growth in the regions it serves.
Jacob Portelli, Altenar’s Sales Manager, expressed, "Africa is a market with significant potential, but sustainable growth relies on building trust alongside strong technology and commercial propositions. Integrity is a shared responsibility across the industry, and being part of IBIA enables Altenar to contribute to that wider effort. We believe that our experience in sportsbook technology, when combined with the collective expertise of IBIA’s network, can foster a stronger and more sustainable betting environment across Africa."
Khalid Ali, CEO of IBIA, remarked that the African market presents both compelling opportunities and notable challenges for the regulated sector. "While there’s great potential for growth, unregulated operators and match-fixers pose serious risks to that progress. The regulatory framework has made strides in various regions; however, it still lags behind top-tier jurisdictions like Ontario and Alberta regarding betting integrity measures. Altenar, along with our other members, has shown a clear commitment to investing in integrity monitoring and reporting, working closely with IBIA to address that regulatory gap in Africa.
