The iGaming industry is expanding at a rapid pace, with significant events attracting tens of thousands of delegates and speakers. However, one pressing question remains: is there an appropriate platform for discussing the unique challenges faced by technology professionals in this sector?

Typically, conferences in the iGaming space tend to follow a common method. Upon entering these events, attendees encounter panels that focus on market growth, keynote speeches centered around regulatory issues, and networking events tailored for business development teams.

Unfortunately, engineers who attend these talks often leave empty-handed, having gained no actionable insights.

As ICE gears up to introduce the Digital and FinTech Transformation Hall in 2027, it will collaborate with SOFTSWISS on the Tech Race Summit. Prior to this event, Sergey Kastukevich, SOFTSWISS's chief technology officer, emphasized the necessity for dedicated technical discussions within the industry. He also outlined what a conference specifically designed for engineers should encompass.

In Kastukevich's view, here are five crucial reasons why these discussions need to take place.

1. **Lack of Dedicated Spaces for Technical Discussions**
Kastukevich expressed, "As an engineer, I want to take ideas from an event. I want new perspectives, practical lessons, and a better understanding of where technology is heading."
The focus of iGaming events tends to prioritize business, reflecting the industry's dependency on market expansion and commercial relationships. While these topics are vital, they don’t cater to the needs of those building the technology.
The engineering community in iGaming urgently requires a space where they can engage collectively to tackle shared technical challenges. System architects are eager to discuss designs, infrastructure teams want to evaluate scalability methods, and developers wish to share solutions to common issues.

Current discussions often revolve around growth, yet there are fewer opportunities to explore how the underlying technology actually functions. This gap often results in isolated solutions, perpetuating the same errors across different companies and years.

2. **Outgrowing the Industry’s Current Technical Conversations**
Kastukevich noted, "Too often, conferences become marketing exercises. Companies spend twenty minutes explaining how great their products are. It looks like a competition to attract clients, wrapped in the language of a conference."
Two decades ago, iGaming borrowed extensively from other sectors. Today, it stands as a mature industry, with platforms capable of managing millions of users, executing transactions in milliseconds, and adhering to complex regulatory frameworks analogous to those in financial services.

This advancement necessitates a corresponding enhancement in the nature of industry conversations, providing a venue for technical leaders to showcase genuine case studies and discuss lessons learned from failures.

3. **Complexity of Modern Infrastructure**
Kastukevich stated, "When you stay inside your own industry, you tend to see only familiar solutions. When you start talking to people from other sectors, unexpected ideas appear."
To outsiders, the iGaming process might seem straightforward – a player places a bet or launches a game. Behind these interactions, however, lies a complex technology ecosystem that must accommodate high transaction volumes, real-time payment processing, responsible gambling controls, and numerous regulatory compliance protocols simultaneously.

Engineers from other sectors find the infrastructure supporting these systems to be immensely intriguing. Few industries ever need to prepare systems capable of handling simultaneous high-load events, such as a World Cup kickoff alongside a jackpot trigger, without any downtime.

Likewise, solutions from companies like AWS, Oracle, and Cloudflare regarding high-load systems, AI infrastructure, and real-time data management could significantly benefit iGaming's technical community.

4. **Need for Reliable Technology in Fast-Moving Industries**
"AI is the new high-load – the way high-load architecture was the hot topic five years ago. Everyone had a talk about it. Ignoring AI would be just as wrong," Kastukevich explained.
The technology landscape is evolving swiftly, and the iGaming sector is no exception. Engineering strategies that were cutting-edge two years ago are now commonplace expects. High-load architecture, real-time data processing, and AI-driven development have all become operational necessities.

In iGaming, falling behind brings immediate consequences. A platform unable to manage sudden traffic surges risks losing revenue and customers right away. Development teams that do not embrace AI-driven workflows can fall behind competitors who do. Staying current requires not just awareness of trends but direct engagement with leaders navigating these changes.

5. **Breaking Free from the iGaming Tech Bubble**
Kastukevich remarks, "Innovation often happens when different perspectives meet."
Specialization can lead to a narrow focus, as iGaming engineers frequently benchmark against one another, validating decisions based on competitors' choices. This can stifle broader innovation.

Breakthrough ideas often sprout from diverse exchanges. The industry thrives when engineers, architects, product leaders, and founders share insights and draw inspiration from various fields. Strengthening these dialogues can, in turn, bolster the industry itself.

The upcoming Tech Race Summit 2026 is scheduled for September 10 in Warsaw, featuring over 30 speakers from companies like AWS, Google, Oracle, and Cloudflare.

Sergey Kastukevich continues to lead efforts at SOFTSWISS on integrating AI into daily operations and fostering the engineering community through hackathons and conferences, focusing on scalable systems and software architecture. He is also part of the advisory board for ICE’s Digital and FinTech Transformation Hall, which will debut in 2027.
