BetGoodwin Explores £80 Million London IPO Amid Market Challenges

BetGoodwin, a UK-based bookmaker, is considering an initial public offering (IPO) on London’s Alternative Investment Market (AIM) that could value the company at approximately £80 million. This potential move comes as major gambling firms see their stock values decline under the pressure of rising taxes and regulatory uncertainties.
To navigate this process, BetGoodwin has enlisted the support of Allenby Capital, an investment bank, to assist in preparing for the IPO. Reports indicate that the company may sell about 20% of its shares currently held by its founders, CEO Julian Head and COO Ben Head.
Goodwin Racing, affiliated with BetGoodwin, has also seen an improvement in its financial standing, boasting cash reserves of £6.08 million in 2024, reflecting considerable growth compared to prior years.
If the anticipated valuation of £80 million is realized, it would signal a positive investor sentiment towards smaller gambling firms looking to enter the public markets, even as larger companies face increasing market and regulatory challenges.
BetGoodwin's aspirations for an IPO stand in stark contrast to the struggles of major gambling operators in London. The industry outlook is heavily influenced by expected tax increases, with remote gambling duties climbing from 21% to 40% in April 2026, and the general betting duty poised to rise from 15% to 25% in April 2027. Ongoing discussions about adjustments to the Machine Games Duty are adding to the anxiety within the sector.
These elevated tax levels could pressure operators' margins and sway investor perceptions regarding the valuation of UK-based gambling companies. While the engagement with Allenby Capital and the proposed £80 million valuation echo significant developments, BetGoodwin's IPO remains unconfirmed at this stage.
