Riot Games Bans Two Players for Match-Fixing in Valorant

Riot Games has imposed bans on two players from the Valorant scene for engaging in match-fixing. The players will not be eligible to return to competition until April 2024, as the ban period starts from April 2021. The misconduct stemmed from a match held on September 22, 2020, between Resurgence and BlackBird Ignis during the Valorant Ignition Series. Investigations revealed that both players from Resurgence conspired to place bets against their own team. Chung initiated the plan, while Tan provided the financial backing. Despite Chung informing his teammates about the wager, they chose not to throw the match. After losing 2-0, Chung made an unsuccessful attempt to bribe his teammates. The Resurgence team disbanded shortly thereafter. Riot Games issued a statement emphasizing the importance of maintaining competitive integrity in their tournaments, asserting that “all players are expected to abide by the rules of fair play” and that violations will not be tolerated.
