Lithuania's online gambling industry reported a revenue of €26.8 million in the first quarter, reflecting a 16.7% increase compared to the same period in 2021. The bulk of this revenue was generated by slots, divided into two categories. Category A slots, which allow uncapped payouts and stakes, earned €15.5 million, up 24.7% year-over-year, with total stakes reaching €210.4 million. Meanwhile, Category B slots, which limit stakes to €0.50 per spin and cap winnings at 200 times the original stake, increased their revenue to €683,313, a 57.9% rise. Table games garnered €1.6 million, up 25.5%, based on €19.4 million in stakes, and overall betting revenue stood at €9.0 million, reflecting a modest 2.1% increase on stakes totaling €125.3 million.
In the land-based gambling sector, revenue amounted to €16.9 million, a significant recovery from the negligible figures seen in Q1 of 2021 when venues were shut down. Again, slot machines led this segment, with Category A machines generating €3.1 million from €12.4 million in stakes, while Category B machines contributed €7.2 million on €45.4 million in stakes. Retail sports betting produced €2.7 million in revenue, as players staked €25.9 million, and table games accumulated €4.0 million on €18.0 million in bets.
This growth occurred despite a ban that took effect in July 2021, which prohibits any promotional activities or bonuses aimed at encouraging gambling. Following the implementation of the ban, several operators faced fines, including Top Sport, which was fined €25,000 on May 10.
During the first quarter, the Lithuanian government collected €8.2 million in lottery and gaming duties, a notable increase from €4.2 million in the same quarter last year.
