Dr. Eyal Loz, the chief product officer at RubyPlay, participated in the iGB@ICE Studio, discussing the impact of player psychology, simplicity, and artificial intelligence on contemporary slot game development. In a conversation with presenter Katie Goldfinch, Loz pointed out that successful games tend to arise from simplified ideas rather than overly complex mechanics. He believes that the path to success lies in iteration, volume, and rigorous quality control, rather than aiming for a singular 'perfect' product. By stripping away superfluous features, developers can enhance the emotional engagement players feel toward a game.
Loz emphasized that AI should serve as an enabler of creativity rather than a replacement for it. "We should really make the effort not to let AI take our voice away," he stated. While generative AI speeds up the production of art and animations, allowing studios to create high-quality content more rapidly, he maintains that human creative judgment remains crucial.
He further explained that AI's true strength is in facilitating the creation of more relevant and timely content, including games tailored around special events or brands. Loz underscored the significance of data-driven design, advocating for a focus on actual player behavior rather than mere opinions. "Watch what players do, not what they say," he advised.
