Irish users can no longer access Stake following an enforcement action by the Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland (GRAI). This regulatory move coincides with Ireland's rollout of a new online betting licensing system, along with the GRAI's intensified efforts against illegal gambling providers. Reports indicate that Stake has blocked access to its platform for Irish customers this week.
While the GRAI did not disclose the names of companies affected in its recent actions, The Irish Times has identified Stake as the gambling operator involved. The GRAI stated that its initiatives have led to the removal of two large prediction markets and a significant gambling platform from Irish accessibility. The authority is collaborating with these companies to ensure that Irish players can retrieve their deposits.
The GRAI is committed to enforcing the law regarding over 100 offshore gambling operators that are not permitted in Ireland, illegal gambling in public houses, and unlicensed casinos.
This action in Ireland mirrors restrictions already faced by Stake in Nigeria, where the site has been shut down across more than 24 states due to similar regulatory measures against online gambling platforms. These moves raise further questions about Stake's operations within both regulated and emerging gambling markets.
