The Isle of Man Gambling Supervision Commission (GSC) is intensifying its efforts to combat illegal gambling by enhancing collaboration with global regulatory bodies and creating a dedicated division for intelligence and enforcement.
In a statement issued on July 20, the GSC announced its cooperation with authorities in Türkiye, informing Isle of Man-licensed operators about new restrictions in the Turkish market. This partnership aims to aid Turkish regulators in enforcing local regulations regarding market access and to prevent licensed firms from operating in regions where they lack authorization.
Additionally, the GSC is prepared to assist international authorities investigating illegal gambling sites. This support may involve identifying fraudulent websites that falsely claim to be licensed in the Isle of Man or that attempt to create an illusion of connection to the jurisdiction through methods like IP routing.
The newly established Intelligence and Enforcement Division will enhance monitoring capabilities, allowing for better oversight of gambling activities in uncontrolled areas outside the regulated sector.
Currently, the GSC maintains a roster of 40 approved website domains operated by licensed companies. It also provides registers of current and former license holders, which help users and businesses confirm an operator’s regulatory status. Furthermore, the GSC keeps a separate list of websites suspected of misrepresenting their licensing status or impersonating legitimate licensed operators.
