A new proposal in Buenos Aires Province aims to tighten regulations for online gambling by setting limits on session times, daily access, and requiring biometric authentication. Mayra Mendoza, a provincial deputy, is leading this initiative which will affect all seven licensed operators under the Casino and Lottery Institute of the Province of Buenos Aires (IPLyC). If successful, this regulatory change could enhance Argentina's online gambling sector in anticipation of the 2026 World Cup.
Under the proposed legislation, players will be restricted to sixty minutes of gameplay before being automatically logged out. After this hour, they must wait a minimum of one hour before they can log back in. Additionally, players will only be permitted three logins each day and will receive reminders aimed at fostering responsible gaming. Exceeding the daily limit will result in a temporary loss of access until the following day.
These measures are intended to address gambling addiction and safeguard users from potential harms. The bill also includes provisions for modifying identity verification processes, introducing instant facial recognition for account logins and deposits. Other measures to protect minors, refine identity verification methods, and regulate advertising practices in the gambling sector are also being proposed.
