In Buenos Aires Province, a new initiative is being introduced to tighten regulations surrounding online gambling sites. The proposed legislation aims to set limits on the duration of gaming sessions, daily access, and to implement biometric authentication for users. Led by provincial deputy Mayra Mendoza, this initiative will affect all seven licensed operators of the Casino and Lottery Institute of the Province of Buenos Aires (IPLyC). If passed, these regulations could enhance the online gambling sector as the country prepares for the 2026 World Cup.
The bill stipulates that players will be restricted to gaming sessions of no more than sixty minutes, after which they will be automatically logged out for a minimum of one hour before they can log in again. Additionally, there will be a cap of three logins per day for users, who will also receive reminders aimed at promoting responsible gambling. Exceeding the daily limit will result in users losing access until the following day.
This legislation seeks to address issues related to problem gambling and to safeguard users from potential risks. Moreover, the bill calls for changes to the identity verification process by introducing instant facial recognition technology, which will be used when players log into their accounts or make deposits. Other protective measures are also included, aimed at safeguarding minors, revising identity verification procedures, and ensuring appropriate advertising regulations in the gambling sector.
Following approval, the bill will advance to the relevant parliamentary committee for further consideration.
