Oddin.gg's latest State of Esports Betting Report reveals significant insights into the evolving landscape of esports wagering. Highlights from the report include: esports bettors stake an average of seven times more than traditional sports bettors; betting volume has increased by a median of 31% year-on-year; and the average stake at the esports premier event, the League of Legends World Championship, reached €77, marking a 166% increase from the previous year.
This upward trend in esports betting reflects the growing engagement of fans, particularly among a younger, more affluent demographic. Oddin.gg’s data indicates that in 2025, all five major esports titles—Counter-Strike 2, League of Legends, Dota 2, VALORANT, and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang—saw double-digit growth in both betting volume and number of bets placed.
Mobile Legends: Bang Bang emerged as the fastest-growing title with a 62% increase in betting volume, while League of Legends, Dota 2, Counter-Strike 2, and VALORANT also reported strong year-on-year growth rates of 46%, 31%, 30%, and 18%, respectively.
The League of Legends World Championship, a key event in the esports calendar, recorded average stakes of €77 in 2025, significantly higher than VALORANT Champions at €47 and Dota 2’s The International at €28.
Live betting has also become a major component of esports wagering, accounting for between 72% and 86% of total betting activity among the five leading titles. Dota 2 led with 86% live betting, followed closely by League of Legends at 79% and Counter-Strike 2 at 75%. This surge in live betting is indicative of the industry's maturation, as it typically leads to heightened engagement and profitability for sportsbooks.
Finally, the report notes a shift towards more sophisticated betting markets, moving beyond traditional wagers. In 2025, player props and utility markets saw substantial growth, with Dota 2's combination markets quadrupling year-on-year. This evolution highlights the increasing engagement levels of bettors who are exploring more complex betting options, providing both retention advantages and margin improvement opportunities for operators.
