Oddin.gg’s recent report on the state of esports betting presents several noteworthy insights into this rapidly evolving market. According to the data, the average stake for esports bettors is around seven times higher than that of those placed on traditional sports. This highlights how esports has attracted a younger, more educated, and potentially affluent audience, contributing to a higher betting confidence among esports enthusiasts.
Remarkably, the report indicates that the betting volume across all esports activities has seen a median increase of 31% year-on-year. This growth follows an impressive rise of 103% noted in the 2024 report. Notably, all five major esports titles—Counter-Strike 2, League of Legends, Dota 2, VALORANT, and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang—experienced double-digit growth in both betting volume and the count of bets placed. Mobile Legends: Bang Bang stood out with a 62% YoY growth in volume, while League of Legends, Dota 2, Counter-Strike 2, and VALORANT noted impressive increases as well.
The League of Legends World Championship, commonly referred to as Worlds, saw an average stake of €77 during its 2025 event, marking a staggering 166% increase from the previous year. This is significantly higher compared to the average stakes of €47 at the VALORANT Champions and €28 at The International for Dota 2.
The report also emphasizes a shift towards live betting, which comprised a substantial portion of esports wagers. Dota 2 led in this category with 86% of betting activity occurring in-play, followed by League of Legends at 79%, Counter-Strike 2 at 75%, VALORANT at 73%, and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang at 72%. The fast-paced nature of these games allows sportsbooks to engage bettors continuously, maximizing opportunities throughout matches.
Lastly, Oddin.gg noted a trend toward more sophisticated betting markets, with growth seen in player propositions and combination bets. For instance, player-related markets in Counter-Strike 2 grew by up to 80%, while Dota 2's combination markets quadrupled in volume year-over-year. This trend shows that sophisticated bettors are increasingly becoming a part of the ecosystem, enhancing engagement and generating more substantial betting handles per match. This evolution signifies that esports betting is maturing, offering broader opportunities for operators beyond mere volume increases.
