AI Innovation Creates New Category of Casino Games

AI is reshaping the gaming industry, enhancing efficiency and creating new gaming experiences. From streamlining product development to identifying bonus abuses, companies are leveraging technology to improve operations.

A significant development is the emergence of AI-powered casino games, which are changing how players engage with gambling. According to Andrii Savyntsev, product owner at ICONIC21, these innovations are fostering a new type of gaming experience. "Not every player wants to sit in silence. Equally, not every player wants the commitment of a live casino table."

Savyntsev highlights that Random Number Generator (RNG) games were favored for their speed and convenience, allowing players to engage without the pressure of live tables. The introduction of conversational AI, however, presents opportunities for something different. "AI made us realize that this design choice also left room for something in between."

The conversational AI market has seen tremendous growth, valued at $14.3 billion last year with projections reaching $78.9 billion by 2033. This technology, now accessible at our fingertips, offers personalized assistance across various aspects of life, including food and fitness.

In gambling, however, the impact of conversational AI takes on a more complex form. The industry has thrived on human interaction, but as digital alternatives rise, in-person gambling remains robust.

Savyntsev questions the prevalent narrative around AI replacing human dealers, emphasizing that the focus should be on how AI can complement human interaction rather than replicating it. "One model uses AI to imitate human dealers as closely as possible, but that treats all AI dealer products as variations on the same idea: recreating the live casino experience through technology."

ICONIC21's iDealer Blackjack, launched in May, is an illustration of this shift. This RNG blackjack game features an AI-driven dealer designed to engage players on a personal level, remembering past interactions and adjusting to the session dynamically. Savyntsev emphasizes the importance of transparency; by clearly revealing the dealer as AI-powered, they foster more genuine player engagement without the confusion of imitation.

Studies indicate that players may feel more at ease interacting with AI than with human dealers. FanDuel co-founder Nigel Eccles points out that some individuals find human dealers intimidating. Research has also shown that people perceive AI-generated messages as more empathetic than traditional human communication.

Despite these advancements, AI products like iDealer Blackjack are not poised to replace human dealers. ICONIC21 maintains that this offering enhances the existing appeal of RNG games without overshadowing live casino experiences. "This is not a live casino replacement," Savyntsev asserts. "The atmosphere of a real table and the interaction with a human dealer serve different player needs."

The iDealer concept is expanding beyond blackjack. In August, ICONIC21 introduced iDealer Boulevard Blackjack, which places the AI-powered dealer in a vibrant, themed environment. Savyntsev believes that these developments signal a shift towards a more flexible approach in designing casino experiences that reflect various themes and player preferences.

Savyntsev concludes that the introduction of AI in casinos should not be viewed solely through the lens of human replacement. Instead, it represents an evolution of gaming that prioritizes unique player experiences. He states, "The future of AI-powered dealers will not be defined by how closely they resemble live casino. It will be defined by whether they create meaningful experiences that players value."

Understanding where AI adds value without overstepping into the domain of human interaction is vital for gaming providers aiming to succeed in this new landscape.
