The National Police Board of Finland has reported that it received 75 applications for gambling licenses, a number that exceeds previous expectations ahead of the country’s competitive market launch in July 2027. This marks an increase from just 50 applications in June, indicating growing interest from potential operators.
Among those submissions, Veikkaus has applied for licenses to maintain its dominant position in the lottery sector while also seeking to expand into new areas such as betting, online casinos, baccarat, and bingo. It's important to note that the total number of applicants remains undisclosed, meaning that the 75 applications could represent fewer than 75 companies since any single operator can apply for multiple license types.
Every gambling license in Finland carries a fee of €29,000. Additionally, the new legal framework will impose restrictions on gambling advertising. Starting July 1, 2027, the National Supervisory Authority of Finland will oversee these advertisements, ensuring that their volume, scope, visibility, and frequency remain reasonable within the market.
There is currently no strict deadline for applications from potential market entrants ahead of the official launch in July 2027.
