Allwyn AG has appointed Fredrik Ögren as its new group chief technology officer (CTO). This announcement, made on Tuesday, reveals that Ögren comes to Allwyn from Betsson Group, where he held the CTO position for five years.
During his time at Betsson, Ögren focused on guiding technology strategy and enhancing large-scale platforms to facilitate international growth across various markets. Notably, he played a role in Betsson’s acquisition of the Canadian B2C business from Rhino Entertainment Group.
In his new role, Ögren will report to Kresimir Spajic, CEO of Allwyn Digital. He is charged with overseeing the development and execution of Allwyn’s technology strategy, aimed at creating a more connected and efficient ecosystem. The company's goals include fostering growth, strengthening market positions, and enhancing customer experiences throughout its range of offerings.
Ögren expressed enthusiasm about his new position: “I am thrilled to be joining Allwyn at such an exciting stage in its growth journey. Technology plays a critical role in creating great player experiences, enabling innovation and supporting long-term business success. I look forward to working with colleagues across the group to build an even more connected technology ecosystem, strengthen our capabilities, and help deliver the next phase of Allwyn’s growth.”
Spajic welcomed Ögren, emphasizing his extensive industry experience and capability in leading technology transformations: “We’re delighted to welcome Fredrik to Allwyn. His expertise will be instrumental in building a more scalable technology platform to deliver improved experiences for our customers and partners.”
Brett Cross, who had been serving as interim group CTO, will take on a new role as CTO global lottery and deputy group CTO, reporting to Ögren. Allwyn described this leadership transition as a move to create a robust technology leadership team for its next growth phase.
This appointment aligns with a significant period of expansion for Allwyn. Spajic recently indicated to iGB that additional mergers and acquisitions are being considered. While discussions are ongoing, he noted there isn’t immediate pressure to finalize any deals.
In addition to Ögren's appointment, Allwyn has also brought on Francesco Rodano, a former Playtech executive, as the new group head of responsible gaming. Furthermore, Phil Walker, previously with William Hill, was named CEO of Allwyn UK in August.
