Allwyn AG has appointed Fredrik Ögren as its new group chief technology officer (CTO). The announcement came on Tuesday, revealing that Ögren previously served as CTO at Betsson Group for five years, where he led the technology strategy and developed large-scale platforms to facilitate international growth across various markets. Notably, this included overseeing Betsson’s acquisition of the Canadian B2C business of Rhino Entertainment Group.
In his new role, Ögren will report to Kresimir Spajic, the CEO of Allwyn Digital. He will be responsible for shaping and implementing Allwyn's technology strategy, aiming to create a more connected and efficient ecosystem. Allwyn intends to leverage this strategy to drive growth, strengthen market positions, and enhance customer experiences across its service offerings.
Ögren expressed his enthusiasm for joining Allwyn at a critical point in its development, stating, "I am thrilled to be joining Allwyn at such an exciting stage in its growth journey. Technology plays a critical role in creating great player experiences, enabling innovation and supporting long-term business success."
He added, "I look forward to working with colleagues across the group to build an even more connected technology ecosystem, strengthen our capabilities and help deliver the next phase of Allwyn’s growth."
Spajic welcomed Ögren to the team, emphasizing his extensive industry experience and track record in leading technology transformations. He noted, "We’re delighted to welcome Fredrik to Allwyn. His expertise will be instrumental in building a more scalable technology platform to deliver improved experiences for our customers and partners."
In a related move, Brett Cross, previously serving as interim group CTO, will shift to a new role as CTO global lottery and deputy group CTO, reporting directly to Ögren. Allwyn described this change as part of their effort to establish a robust technology leadership team to meet future growth objectives.
This appointment arrives as Allwyn is experiencing significant expansion. Spajic indicated that further mergers and acquisitions are being discussed, although he reassured that there’s no rush to finalize any deals at this time.
Moreover, Allwyn has recently appointed Francesco Rodano, a former Playtech executive, as the new group head of responsible gaming. In August, Phil Walker, who has a background with William Hill, was named as the CEO of Allwyn UK.
