In Tanzania, operators engaged in virtual gaming may soon face a 10% tax on their gross gaming revenue, depending on the outcomes of the Board's recent recommendations. This Board plays a crucial role in regulating gambling within the country and advises the national government regarding taxation and fees related to gambling activities. Following the government's legal endorsement of virtual gambling games in the wake of amendments to the Gaming Act in October 2019, a specific tax rate for these games remains unestablished. Stakeholders wishing to voice their opinions on the suggested tax rate have until February 7 to do so. The 2019 amendments introduced several changes beyond virtual gaming, including new licensing categories for profit lotteries, service providers, suppliers to operators, and gaming consultants. Additionally, the Board gained enhanced authority to permit operators to market their offerings, effectively lifting previous advertising restrictions in Tanzania.
