The Brazil Ministry of Finance is set to release all completed processes related to the licensing of fixed-odds betting operations. Over 25,000 documents will soon be accessible on the ministry's website. Minister Dario Durigan, alongside Daniele Cardoso, head of the Secretary of Prizes and Betting (SPA), made this announcement to promote transparency in the sector's regulation.
Minister Durigan emphasized that this initiative reflects a new commitment to transparency within the federal government. "My commitment, like President Lula's commitment, is to provide transparency," Durigan stated. "This government is not a government of secrecy; it is not a government that intends to hoard information and withhold information from people. Therefore, in the coming days, all proceedings concerning companies regulated by the SPA that have been concluded will be widely publicized."
The release of these documents will necessitate the prior processing of personal data and confidential information. To comply with data protection laws, sensitive details will be redacted before the documents are published. The ministry assured that this approach will ensure personal data is protected while maintaining transparency about the public administration's analyses. This follows a period when access to betting data was previously denied and subjected to 100 years of secrecy.
The initiative will be executed in collaboration with the Comptroller General of the Union to expedite the document release. As the documents are prepared, they will be added to the Ministry of Finance's website for public consultation. This move underscores the federal government’s commitment to transparency, regulatory integrity, and oversight concerning decisions affecting the fixed-odds betting market in Brazil.
In light of the upcoming FIFA World Cup, Cardoso also announced enhanced monitoring and oversight efforts. This includes meetings with public prosecutors, consumer protection agencies, Procons, and other members of the National Consumer Protection System to ensure compliance with Law No. 14.790/2023.
These regulations pertain to advertising standards for betting platforms. "We are reinforcing monitoring and oversight actions during the competition period," Cardoso explained. "We have already instructed regulated agents on the need for strict adherence to the responsible gaming rules stipulated in the legislation and will intensify our monitoring of the campaigns."
Additionally, the 1st Responsible Gaming Seminar is scheduled for June 16.
