Annie Knight, an adult film star from Australia, recently disclosed her distress over her fiancé Henry Brayshaw's relapse into gambling addiction, during which he has reportedly lost over $30,000 in just three months. While Brayshaw had previously credited Knight with helping him overcome this addiction, it seems he fell back into the harmful behavior shortly after sharing his story.
Knight, who is a cast member of the reality TV show "Turned On: Dirty Sexy Money," opened up about the impact of Brayshaw's gambling issues on her mental health in an Instagram post. "I found out that Henry has had a relapse with his gambling addiction," Knight stated. "Over the past few months, Henry’s probably spent about $30,000 on gambling. This isn’t Henry’s first relapse. There’s been a few since we first met. It all starts with alcohol. He’ll drink, and he’ll slip up, he’ll apologize, and he’ll be very upset; I’ll feel bad for him, and then it will happen again."
Knight expressed her feelings of helplessness as the cycle of relapse continues, stating, "I’m trying to run a business, I try to be the best partner I can be, and none of it’s working. It’s like, no matter what I do, I can’t fix this situation. And I don’t really know if I can anymore."
Reflecting on the manipulative aspects of addiction, she noted, "An addict will do anything to get the fix, and it’s hard to not feel used at times. It feels like he’s taking advantage of me."
In a similar vein, recovered gambling addict Noah Vineberg had shared his experiences of the destructive nature of gambling addiction, emphasizing the lies and deceit it fosters. "I’ve lied to family members, compromised marriages, missed mortgage payments, contemplated suicide, all because of my addiction. I’ve lost a hell of a lot more than money," Vineberg relayed to CasinoBeats.
Following Knight's Instagram post, many followers advised her to sever ties with Brayshaw, sharing their personal experiences with addiction and the challenges that come with trying to help an addict.
Despite the challenges, Vineberg underscored the importance of empathy in the recovery journey: "My message to anyone struggling is this: empathy is everything. The hardest things you’ll do will also be the most rewarding. Recovery is the greatest gift you’ll ever give yourself."
In a recent interview, Brayshaw mentioned that he has reached 100 days of sobriety and attributed this turnaround to a significant ultimatum from Knight. "I needed a massive ultimatum — a life-changing moment — to finally make that decision," he explained.
Knight reflected on her journey, recognizing the deeper issues often tied to addiction. She also noted a significant shift in her personal life, moving away from her previous role in adult films, having recorded extreme experiences in the past.
As the couple navigates these turbulent times, the impact of addiction on their relationship remains a central concern.
