Rashabar’s shocking win in Tuesday’s Group 2 Coventry Stakes set the standard for World Pool Value throughout Royal Ascot, with an unprecedented Win Dividend.

Rashabar, which returned 129.90 against an SP of 80.1 since its launch in 2019, is the most expensive World Pool horse ever.

This week, 20 World Pool bettors in UK and Ireland who used the Tote to wager on the World Pool won overpayments.

Turnover

Gold Cup Day had the largest turnover for the week, with HK$298.2m. (PS30.1m), Prince of Wales Stakes Day followed with HK$297.8m. (PS30m) Commonwealth Cup Day came in third with HK$283.5m. (PS28.6m), making it the top three World Pool Days this year.

Over the course of five days, pools ranging between HK$269.6m and HK$298.2m were reported.

The total turnover of World Pool wagering types for the week was HK$1426.1m. The Group 3 Jersey Stakes on Saturday was the race with the highest turnover, up 20% from 2023 to HK$52.1m. (PS5.25m).

World Pool Jockeys’ Championship

Billy Loughnane has a huge advantage over the World Pool Jockeys’ Championship after he won 129.90 points on Rashabar, a record-breaking Win Dividend. He won his first Royal Ascot race this week on Rashabar, and added 19.65 points to his score aboard Sandringham’s winner Soprano.

Oisin Murph is Loughnane’s closest competitor in the £50,000 competition, with 72.25 point. Leading rider at the end of World Pool Raceday, on British Champions Day in Ascot, will be awarded PS50,000 for a charitable donation.

Billy Loughnane:

After Royal Ascot, I’m thrilled to lead the World Pool Jockeys’ Championship. It was an incredible experience to have won the Coventry with Rashabar and the Sandringham for George (Boughey) and Highclere on Soprano. World Pool has taken a wonderful initiative to donate PS50,000 for charity. If I win on Champions Day and am still ahead, I will be donating the money to Christy Lambe Foundation. This is a cause that I hold very dear to my heart.

Moment of the Day

Five yards won cheques worth PS4,000 each on every day of Royal Ascot, as part of World Pool’s Moment of the Day Initiative. The winning grooms now have a chance to win a VIP trip for two next year.

  • Tuesday – Rashabar, Coventry Stakes – Jasa Ram
  • Tuesday – Running Lion & Duke of Cambridge Stakes (Kiefer Holmes)
  • Barry Lusted – Mickley Britannia Stakes on Thursday
  • Saturday – Crystal Black and Duke of Edinburgh Stakes, Eric Hyland
  • Saturday – Isle Of Jura, Hardwicke Stakes – David Kenny

World Pool: Significant Overpayments

The UK and Ireland have seen incredible savings with the Tote paying more than the Industry Start Price (SP) for 20 out of 35 winners. These include the following overpayments that were significant:

Rashabar: 129.90 to 80/1, a new record for Win Dividend

Unequal Love – 15.75 v 12/1

Khaadem – 17.30 v 14/1

Fairy Godmother 3.20 Version 15/8

Soprano – 19.65 v 14/1

Go The Distance: 12.50 Vs. 9/1

Mickley – 10.75 v 15/2

Jayarebe 10.3 v 7.1

Tote had an overround rate of 113%, whereas the Industry average was 124%. In 31 races the Tote Trifecta won over Tricast, while in 28 races it was the Tote Exacta that beat Forecast.

Michael Fitzsimons Executive Director Wagering Products, HKJC, , said:

Royal Ascot has been a fantastic five-day racing event. World Pool began at this meeting five years ago. Since then, the racing community has seen a tremendous growth in value and we’ve also witnessed a fantastic increase in World Pool. The record payout for Rashabar on Tuesday in the Coventry Stakes was merely the culmination of that. Billy Loughnane deserves a huge congratulations for his Royal Ascot win. He is currently flying high in the World Pool Jockeys’ Championship, where he has a good chance to earn PS50,000 that he can donate to the charity of his choosing.

Thank you to Ascot and the Tote for their support in delivering a high-quality product. Our next World Pool will be Irish Derby Day, which is on Saturday.

All of us enjoyed the five-day racing festival. Ascot’s Alastair warwick and his team deserve a big thank you for their efforts in making the Royal Meeting the highlight of summer racing. Tote customers enjoyed huge pools, exceptional value and 20 better-priced winners. The Tote pool and Tote operated at an overround rate of 113% compared with Industry SP’s 124%. The rest of World Pool Season will ensure that racing fans, and sport in general, benefit from the global pools.

Alastair W. Warwick, the Chief executive of Ascot Racecourse said:

We had another great week of racing and were delighted with the depth and quality of the races, and especially the eight runners or more in each race. This is important for the World Pool betting to be available. There was an international flavour to the racing, with many winners hailing from Australia and France. The team’s hard work in preparing for Royal Ascot was rewarded with a fantastic result. Both the on-course attendance as well as the betting turnover increased year over year. Next World Pool Day is QIPCO’s King George Day.
