The state Senate will be considering a bill to amend the North Dakota Constitution in order to introduce the possibility of online sports betting. This was passed by the North Dakota House.
House Concurrent Resolution Number 3002 is the bill’s title. The bill, entitled House Concurrent Resolution No. 3002, proposes an amendment to article 11, section 25, of the North Dakota Constitution.
This amendment allows sports betting in North Dakota to be allowed and regulated.
At the moment, only casinos and tribal land are allowed to offer sports betting.
It was introduced for the first time at the State House on Wednesday, 3 January. After its second reading, the bill was sent to Senate on 12 January after a House vote of 49-44.
Twelve Representatives are behind the bill, including 11 Republicans and 1 Democrat.
The bill needs to be passed by a Senate majority.
The motion will be on the ballot at the general elections of 2024 if it is successful.
North Dakota has tried before to introduce sports betting, but failed. In 2019, a similar bill that was introduced failed to pass in the North Dakota Senate.
A second attempt, in 2021, also failed to progress.
