The Public Prosecutor's Office in Buenos Aires has taken action against seven online betting platforms operating illegally. This initiative, overseen by Juan Rozas at the Special Prosecutor's Office for Gambling (FEJA), comes in response to multiple complaints from the Argentine Chamber of Casinos, Bingos, and Related Gambling Halls, along with the Buenos Aires City Lottery (LOTBA).
FEJA reported deficiencies in the platforms regarding critical measures like age restrictions, user verification, and protection protocols for users. The investigation was carried out by the Judicial Investigations Corps of the CABA Public Prosecutor's Office. These illegal operations face penalties as stipulated under Article 301 bis of Argentina's Penal Code.
In a related effort, FEJA is also focusing on influencer marketing. In September, it entered agreements with 16 Argentine influencers who had promoted unauthorized online casinos. As part of these agreements, the influencers will create awareness videos highlighting the risks of unregulated online betting and the lack of safeguards for gamblers on illegal sites. This campaign encourages viewers to engage with LOTBA's Responsible Gaming program and warns against supporting illegal gambling platforms.
Authorities emphasized the importance of the .bet.ar domain, which helps users verify the legitimacy of gambling sites in Argentina. These recent law enforcement actions underline Buenos Aires' commitment to combating illegal online gambling and the promotion of such channels.
