Altenar has filed formal complaints with both European Union and UK competition authorities against Sportradar, alleging that the company is abusing its market dominance by hindering access to critical live sports data and betting odds. Altenar claims that Sportradar has blocked its access to data that is protected by exclusive distribution agreements with major leagues such as the NBA, MLB, ATP, and NHL, while continuing to provide this information to its own betting platforms, ORAKO and NSoft.
This obstruction, as stated by Altenar, has impeded its ability to compete effectively. Furthermore, Altenar alleges that Sportradar has tied access to essential data and odds to the purchase of its Managed Trading Services (MTS), which Altenar claims it was pressured to acquire despite its insistence that it did not require the service.
Altenar is calling on the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Competition and the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) to investigate these allegations. A spokesperson from Altenar expressed concern regarding Sportradar’s practices, stating, "We believe Sportradar is using its control of essential sports data to shut out businesses with a competing offer. This is bigger than Altenar: bookmakers across the EU and UK need a choice of suppliers and a market that supports competition and innovation. We are asking the European Commission and the CMA to intervene and ensure that independent providers can compete on fair terms."
In response, a representative from Sportradar stated that they were not aware of any recent notifications related to complaints from Altenar, although they acknowledged that Altenar had previously threatened to approach multiple competition authorities earlier this year. Sportradar characterized Altenar’s latest actions as unnecessary and a tactic to apply pressure amid ongoing commercial disputes, asserting their commitment to comply with all relevant antitrust laws.
These recent complaints come on the heels of four lawsuits filed by Altenar against Sportradar in the United States back in April.
