ADI Predictstreet, FIFA’s designated prediction market partner for the upcoming 2026 World Cup, is under investigation due to concerns regarding its trading activities. Analysis of blockchain transactions has linked approximately $108 million of the platform's total trading volume of $167 million, up until late September, to associated cryptocurrency wallets.
Although the trading volume raised alarms about the authenticity of consumer transactions, the blockchain analysis has not definitively proven any manipulation.
Insights into the analysis indicate that a group of 795 wallets accounted for nearly all of the trading volume recorded by the platform as of late August 2022. Notably, a single cryptocurrency address appears to have funded these wallets, which also received a minimal number of transaction fees.
The investigation revealed that these wallets engaged in reciprocal trading among each other. This network was identified by three Harvard University students and validated by firms specializing in blockchain analysis. During the World Cup, two wallets reportedly conducted trades totaling over $80 million across hundreds of markets, with trading activity declining afterward.
FIFA awarded ADI Predictstreet the title of official prediction market partner for the 2026 World Cup, with the platform reportedly paying in excess of $150 million for exclusive advertising rights related to the big tournament. The findings have sparked concerns regarding the integrity of trading activities on the platform and the adequacy of its monitoring measures, even though no wrongdoing has been confirmed.
