Matchbook Acquires Betdaq to Enhance Betting Exchange Liquidity

Matchbook has finalized its acquisition of rival betting exchange Betdaq, a move designed to enhance its liquidity amid the growing trend of peer-to-peer betting. Announced on Wednesday, this acquisition unites two of the most established betting exchange operators, with Matchbook emphasizing the deal reflects its lasting commitment to the sector.

To facilitate a seamless transition for users, the Betdaq service will continue to operate until October 21, allowing withdrawals for players through November 4.

By merging the services of both platforms, Matchbook anticipates that users will enjoy benefits such as a larger liquidity pool, narrower spreads, and the ability to place larger bets at their preferred prices.

Matchbook’s CEO Ronan McDonagh expressed that the acquisition will bolster the company’s goal of positioning exchange betting as the top choice for bettors. He remarked, "Betdaq and Matchbook grew up proving the same idea – that bettors get a better deal when prices are made by a market rather than a margin."

"A quarter of a century on, that idea is winning: exchanges and prediction markets are bringing peer-to-peer pricing to new audiences around the world, and this acquisition deepens the pool at the heart of everything we build."

McDonagh further stressed that the primary focus during this transition will be Betdaq’s customers, ensuring that their funds are secure and giving them clear options. He reassured users, saying that in a combined pool, they should find better prices and deeper liquidity than either exchange previously offered.

The surge in peer-to-peer betting has been particularly noticeable in the United States, where operators like Kalshi and Polymarket have made significant impacts. Since its establishment in 2004, Matchbook has taken strategic steps to capitalize on this evolving landscape.

In 2024, Matchbook formed a partnership with EasyGroup, known for the airline EasyJet, to launch the betting exchange brand EasyBet. Additionally, the company has ventured into prediction markets, recently partnering with ADI PredictStreet, the official predictions partner of the 2026 World Cup.
