Matchbook Completes Acquisition of Betdaq

Matchbook has finalized its acquisition of Betdaq, a move the company believes will enhance its liquidity in response to the increasing popularity of peer-to-peer betting. This announcement was made on Wednesday and unites two longstanding betting exchange competitors, reaffirming Matchbook's commitment to the sector.

The Betdaq platform will continue to operate until October 21, allowing for a smooth transition for users, with withdrawals permitted until November 4.

With the integration of both exchanges, Matchbook anticipates that its customers will enjoy increased liquidity, tighter spread margins, and the ability to place larger bets at their preferred prices.

CEO Ronan McDonagh remarked that this acquisition aligns with the company's objective to establish exchange betting as the premier choice for bettors. "Betdaq and Matchbook grew up proving the same idea – that bettors get a better deal when prices are made by a market rather than a margin," he stated.

He highlighted that, 25 years later, this principle holds true: exchanges and prediction markets are reaching new audiences across the globe, and this acquisition significantly expands the liquidity pool central to their business model.

McDonagh emphasized that the primary focus during this transition will be Betdaq’s customers, assuring them that their funds remain secure and that they will have clear options. He also noted that in the unified platform, users should find better pricing and more liquidity than either exchange could provide independently.

Matchbook is witnessing a resurgence in peer-to-peer betting, particularly in the U.S., where prediction market firms like Kalshi and Polymarket have made notable inroads. Established in 2004, Matchbook has taken significant steps to tap into this evolving landscape. In 2024, the company collaborated with EasyGroup, which operates EasyJet, to launch EasyBet. Matchbook has also ventured into prediction markets, notably partnering with ADI PredictStreet, the official predictions partner for the upcoming 2026 World Cup.
