Denmark’s Financial Supervisory Authority (Finanstilsynet) has imposed a ban on Inpay, preventing the payment service provider from onboarding new customers due to significant failures in its anti-money laundering (AML) compliance processes. This injunction will remain until the regulator is satisfied that the identified issues have been adequately addressed.
The action followed a review conducted in March 2026, during which Finanstilsynet discovered that Inpay was not properly executing due diligence during the onboarding of its clients. Specifically, the firm failed to reassess customer information adequately when it changed, and did not evaluate the nature and objectives of the business relationships appropriately, particularly concerning high-risk iGaming clients. Additionally, there were deficiencies noted in monitoring transactions associated with clients in the online gaming sector.
Finanstilsynet indicated that these compliance failures were prevalent among most of Inpay's clientele, which constitutes a significant volume of the company's transactions. Many of these clients are located outside Denmark and Europe, raising concerns over the potential misuse of Inpay for money laundering and terrorist financing.
Until Inpay receives regulatory approval confirming compliance with Denmark's Anti-Money Laundering Act, the company is barred from forming partnerships with online gaming firms. Inpay has expressed its commitment to adhering to this decision, aiming to re-establish its operations within the iGaming industry by July 27.
Existing customers will be unaffected and can continue using Inpay’s services without interruption. Inpay clarified that the temporary nature of this ruling means no actions will be taken against current users of the service. Founded in 2008 in Copenhagen, Inpay specializes in cross-border payment transactions in both fiat and cryptocurrency.
