Allwyn AG has appointed Fredrik Ögren as its new group chief technology officer (CTO). Ögren, who joins the company after spending five years as CTO at Betsson Group, will be instrumental in directing Allwyn's technology strategy.
While at Betsson, Ögren was responsible for key technology initiatives and the development of large-scale platforms to ensure growth in various international markets. His leadership was particularly noted during Betsson’s acquisition of the Canadian B2C operations of Rhino Entertainment Group.
In his new role, Ögren will report to Kresimir Spajic, CEO of Allwyn Digital, and is tasked with crafting and implementing a cohesive technology strategy. The company aims to bolster growth, strengthen market positions, and enhance customer experiences across its services.
Ögren expressed enthusiasm about joining Allwyn, stating, “I am thrilled to be joining Allwyn at such an exciting stage in its growth journey. Technology plays a critical role in creating great player experiences, enabling innovation and supporting long-term business success.” He emphasized the importance of developing a connected technology ecosystem to accelerate Allwyn's growth.
Spajic welcomed Ögren, praising his extensive industry experience and capability to spearhead technology transformations: “We’re delighted to welcome Fredrik to Allwyn. His expertise will be instrumental in building a more scalable technology platform to deliver improved experiences for our customers and partners.”
Additionally, Brett Cross, who has served as interim group CTO, will take on a new role as CTO for global lottery and deputy group CTO, directly reporting to Ögren. This leadership restructuring is aimed at forming a robust technology leadership team to support Allwyn’s growth.
The timing of Ögren’s appointment is significant as Allwyn is currently experiencing rapid expansion. Spajic recently indicated that further mergers and acquisitions are being planned, though there is no urgency to finalize any deals at this stage.
Alongside this appointment, Allwyn also hired Francesco Rodano, a former Playtech executive, as the new group head of responsible gaming. Additionally, Phil Walker, a former senior executive from William Hill, was named CEO of Allwyn UK in August.
