Months after the Temple men’s basketball team raised eyebrows during the lead-up to March Madness, one of the star players of the squad has been dismissed from his new school.

Sports Illustrated reported that former Temple Owl and Virginia Tech transfer Hysier Miller has been dismissed from his new program in advance of the new season. The report comes after a social media post from the team’s profile highlighting the guards on the squad with Miller notably missing.

There has been no official comment from the school or Miller regarding his status.

IC360’s U.S. Integrity said in the spring that it had been monitoring suspicious betting activity around Temple games, including a match where opponent UAB surged from a 1.5 to eight-point favorite on game day prior to the team besting the Owls by 28 points.

Miller was Temple’s leading scorer last season.

There was no immediate action taken by the NCAA or the team at the time.

The news comes after a new report from the NCAA detailing bettor abuse and its impact on student-athletes. Additional NCAA research also suggested that prohibitions on betting were not deterring student-athletes from breaking the rules.

NCAA President Charlie Baker continues to push state regulators and sportsbooks to prohibit individual player props on college athletes, though in the case of Temple, the suspicious activity seemed to revolve around full-game betting lines. Several states have complied, but operators continue to offer those markets in states where they are allowed.

Meanwhile, the NBA and several major sports betting operators are taking steps to avoid another Jontay Porter scandal.

Most of the major sportsbook operators have voluntarily agreed to stop offering player props on two-day or ten-day contract players. The NBA did not take the issue to state regulators, instead opting to go to the major sports betting brands and ask for their cooperation.
