DraftKings issued an apology for a sports betting promotion that was published on September 11th, focusing on New York.

On the DraftKings website, there was an offer for a parlay wager on three New York sports teams winning. The promo, entitled ‘Never Forget”, stated that bets could be placed on the New York sports teams to win on September 11, 2001.

New York Jets of the NFL and Major League Baseball’s New Yankees & New York Mets played.

On the social networking site X (formerly known as Twitter), images of this promotion have been heavily criticized. Yesterday was the 22nd Anniversary of 9/11.

On 11 September 2001, terrorists hijacked 4 commercial aircraft in the US.

DraftKings was criticized by the Fraternal Order of Police, an association of law enforcement officers sworn in the US.

The FOP asked on X: “What is wrong with DraftKings that they think it’s even remotely acceptable to joke about 3,000 innocent victims being killed?” When we say #NeverForget we do not mean to ‘bet tonight’s games.’ Instead, we mean “Never Forget!”

DraftKings apologized on X and retracted the promotion. This post has received over 1.2 millions views.

DraftKings apologized for the parlay featured in a brief commemoration to 9/11. We respect this special day and the importance it holds for our nation, especially the families who have been directly affected.
