Steve McCann former CEO of Crown Resorts and MD of Star Entertainment Group, has been named as the new Group CEO.
McCann’s new position at Australian Casino Operator will start on 8 July 2024, subject to receiving the necessary regulatory approvals.
The Acting Group CEO Neale 0’Connell and the Chair Anne Ward will be replaced by him. They have been taking these additional responsibilities until a permanent Group MD and CEO was announced.
McCann commented on the news of his appointment: “I am looking forward to join The Star in this crucial time. The company faces many challenges and complex issues. “I am dedicated to working with board members and stakeholders to drive change and restore confidence, and to achieve a lasting resolution.
McCann has 28 years’ experience in the executive world, including as Crown Resorts MD and CEO. McCann also served as the Group CEO for Lendlease for more than 10 years, which is a real-estate development and investment company.
The Star also appointed Jeannie Mock last month as its Group Chief Operating officer to oversee the remediation effort. Mok previously served as Crown Resorts’ Chief Transformation Officer.
Ward continued: “Following an extensive search, the board was very happy to secure a CEO with Steve’s experience, and respect within the industry. He has the credentials for The Star’s program of remediation, given his experience with Crown as well as Lendlease.
His track record shows his ability to lead transformational changes and cultural renewal. The experience gained will prove invaluable in our efforts to rebuild trust and accelerate the transformation of The Star.
