Betsson wins betting and gaming licences for Peru

Betsson, an online gambling operator today announced that it had secured a license to operate its Betsafe and Bettson brand names in Peru’s newly-regulated market.

Betsson is also expecting to receive approval soon for Inkabet, its Peruvian business.

Betsson is present in Peru as early as 2008. It expanded its presence in Peru by launching the Betsafe brand. It also bought the locally licensed online sports betting brand Inkabet two years later for $25m.

Betsson was required to obtain a full license to operate in Peru after the market’s regulation earlier this year. On 9 February, the Law No 31557 that regulates sports betting and online gambling came into force.

The deadline for operators to submit a license application was 10 March. The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism in Peru received 145 applications for licenses, both from national and international operators.

Betsson’s CEO and President Pontus Lindwall stated that “we have been looking forward to Peru adopting a local regulatory and we are extremely pleased with this licenses being issued.”

With this announcement we confirm our commitment to local economies and a new regulatory framework for the country.

Betsson expands its presence

Betsson is also active in Colombia, Argentina, and other LatAm countries. It holds licenses for Buenos Aires City, Cordoba and other markets in LatAm.

Betsson announced other markets launches over the past few weeks and months. Betsson launched its flagship brand on the Italian market in March.

StarCasino has operated in Italy since more than 10 years. The new Betsson site will include this brand.

After being acquired by Betsson in the past year, Betfirst has launched an online gambling site in Belgium through a partnership between Groupe Partouche and Middelkerke Casino.

Betsson was granted a license to offer sports betting in France last year. The company also acquired an online gambling licence in Serbia.

Betsson was one of 40 operators that the Dominican Republic blacklisted in April, just as the Dominican Republic prepared to regulate the market. Betway, Interwetten Betfair Colombia Bet365 Mr Green Casino 888Sport William Hill and Betway were all flagged.
