Brazil’s long road to approval of gambling
Brazil’s gambling road has been a long and winding one. In May 2023 the final leg of this journey began when Brazil announced that PM 1.182 would be used for sports betting.
Lula signed the law into effect in July, giving the go-ahead to the PM. The PM faced opposition from several groups, including evangelicals.
The bill 3,626/2023 was amended to include online casinos. This was approved by the Chamber of Deputies in September. Brazil is now one step closer towards gambling regulation.
The senate initially removed igaming from the bill. The chamber of deputies, however, reincorporated the bill after it was given final approval.
