The affiliate giant Better Collective completed the acquisition of Playmaker Capital just two months after they agreed to buy it.

Better Collective acquired Playmaker Capital by a deal in November. This agreement was valued at EUR176m ($189m/PS150m). It is expected to be closed in the first quarter.

Playmaker’s shares are listed both on the TSX Venture Exchange (Canada) and OTCQX (US). The media brands Futbolsites.net Yardbarker, and The Nation Network are among the company’s assets.

Better Collective says that now it is the leader in South America. The company also claims that the purchase strengthens their position in North America.

Better Collective CEO’s excitement over deal

Jesper Sogaard said, “I am truly excited about the completion of Playmaker Capital’s acquisition.” This marks an important step in our quest to become the world’s leading digital sports media company.

In the past few months we’ve had some great conversations with Playmaker management. They have strengthened my confidence in our combined future.

I look forward to welcoming Playmaker and all its sports media brands into the Better Collective Group and realizing the numerous synergies ahead of our business.

Jordan Gnat, co-founder of Playmaker and its CEO, also welcomed this deal. The acquisition of Better Collective by Playmaker marks the next step in the company’s evolution, he said.

Gnat stated that he was inspired by how well the two teams fit together and their excitement about the future.

We are just as eager as ever to embark on this new journey. Thank you to all of the Playmaker investors for your support. “I look forward to the continued support from Playmaker shareholders as we work together to become the world’s leading digital sports media company.”

Better Collective: a strategy of ongoing M&A

Better Collective has just acquired Playmaker. The purchase follows that of Playmaker HQ, which was purchased in July 2023 by Better Collective for $54m.

Playmaker HQ is based in South Florida and creates entertainment and sporting content. The content is geared towards the US and includes collaborations with athletes, creators, and talent.

Marc Pedersen, CEO of Better Collective North America in 2013, said that the acquisition gives the affiliate an opportunity to reach a larger audience. Better Collective now uses Playmaker HQ’s sponsorship knowledge to increase monetisation outside of the sports betting industry.

Last year, Better Collective also acquired the Brazilian platform Torcedores.com and Tipsbladet.dk, a sports news site aimed at Danes. Other purchases during 2023 include Swedish brands SvenskaFans.com, HockeySverige.se, Fotbolldirekt.se and InnebandyMagazinet.se, as well as advertising company Skycon Limited.
