While two competitors claim it is Light & Wonder that is copying their games, Light & Wonder is taking a California company to court saying it ripped off the Light & Wonder title Rich Little Piggies.
Light & Wonder filed the suit in late July but defendant Zeroo Gravity Games (ZGG) has twice asked to extend its deadline to offer a response. The action is taking place in Northern California District Court. Zeroo Gravity Games is headquartered in Palo Alto.
In the complaint, Light & Wonder alleges that the ZGG title 3 Stuffed Swine is a blatant rip-off of the popular Rich Little Piggies. Screenshots from both games highlight the similarities, particularly when it comes to the titular pigs.
The complaint also noted that ZGG launched an online social casino app, Jackpot Friends, in February 2023, more than ten years after Light & Wonder debuted its online social casino app, Jackpot Party, which includes the title Rich Little Pigs.
In addition to copying the main pig characters, the complaint also states that ZGG also replicated other characters within the game, such as a pig with a monocle, bow tie and collared shirt.
The case was assigned to a new judge to long after it was filed, further slowing down the process. The court is set to meet on Nov. 5 regarding case management.
Meanwhile, Light & Wonder is moving forward in litigation involving Aristocrat. Earlier this week, a Nevada District Court issued a preliminary injunction against Light & Wonder limiting the company from distributing its Dragon Train slot title until the court case is resolved. In this case, Aristocrat alleges that Light & Wonder misappropriated trade secrets to copy its Dragon Link game.
Light & Wonder also has pending litigation with Evolution. The game studio claims that Light & Wonder is violating its copyright on Lighting Roulette with a similar RouletteX game.
