Sports gaming and media company Betr has hired Alex Kuwada as its new head of marketing.

Kuwada was formerly the senior director of growth at sports betting industry leader FanDuel. In his new role, Kuwada will oversee Betr’s acquisition and retention while ensuring that the company’s marketing efforts fully leverage the company’s Betr Media capabilities.

Kuwada will report directly to CEO and co-founder Joey Levy.

“Alex rose up the ranks over the past six years at FanDuel and most recently served as one of their most important user acquisition leaders,” said Levy. “I am excited to work closely with Alex to continue scaling Betr into a market leadership position.”

Betr said in a release that during his tenure at FanDuel, Kuwada helped lead paid acquisition efforts and contributed significantly to the company’s growth, which is on track for over $6 billion in revenue this year. His strategic insights and innovative approach to marketing will be instrumental in driving Betr’s continued success, believes the company.

“I am thrilled to join Betr and work alongside such a talented and dynamic team,” said Kuwada. “Betr’s commitment to excellence and innovation in the sports gaming and media space is unmatched, and I look forward to contributing to the company’s growth and success as Betr solidifies its market leadership position.”

As part of the transition, Jesse Chemtob will move from his current role as Betr’s interim head of marketing to interim head of commercial. In his new role, Chemtob will oversee the commercial function of the company while continuing to collaborate closely with the marketing team.

Betr soft-launches new sportsbook, expands Betr Picks with P2P

Kuwada joins a company that is rapidly changing its operations.

At the end of August, Betr unveiled the new peer-to-peer version of its real-money daily fantasy sports pick ’em product Betr Picks, now live in Florida and Massachusetts, and soft-launched the new version of its Betr Sportsbook in Virginia and Ohio.

The V1 Betr Sportsbook includes mobile betting staples such as same-game parlays, player props, futures and traditional markets like moneyline, point spreads and over/unders.

Levy told SBC Americas in an interview last summer that it was always the comapny’s plan to build up the sports betting side of the business after establishing its Betr Media brand. More V1 sportsbook launches are planned over the coming months, and Betr has also signalled its intent to move into the iGaming vertical with its upcoming Betr Casino product.
