Sports betting in Iowa enjoyed a positive start to the year as the market experienced an increase in gross gaming revenue (GGR) during January.

The data will be updated monthly following the official release of figures from the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission.
GGR from online sports betting reached $12.0m, up from $11.8m the previous month a total second only to the $16.7m recorded in November 2021.
Retail betting revenue amounted to $2.3m for the month, rising 53.3% from December 2021.
Sports betting handle for the month came to $303.4m. Online handle amounted to an all time high $275.9m, beating the previous record of $260.3m set in November. The $27.5m of retail betting handle was the third-highest figure on record.
The FanDuel-powered Diamond Jo Dubuque reclaimed its dominant market share from Penn National’s Prairie Meadows Racetrack and Casino, with the former maintaining 25.5% of the market compared to 10.1% for the latter.
Diamond Jo Worth, a DraftKings partner, was the second largest operator with 14.6%. Wild Rose Casino in Jefferson had a share of 8.8%, also with a DraftKings sportsbook, while the Clinton branch of the Wild Rose chain settled for 7.3%.
