AI Creating a New Category of Casino Game

AI is reshaping the global gaming landscape in significant ways. Operators are increasingly adopting advanced technology, not just for efficient internal processes like rapid product development and bonus abuse detection, but also for enhancing the player experience through personalization in marketing and game recommendations.

According to Andrii Savyntsev, product owner at ICONIC21, a new category of casino game is emerging as AI becomes part of the gaming experience. "Not every player wants to sit in silence. Equally, not every player wants the commitment of a live casino table," he states.

For many years, Random Number Generator (RNG) games flourished because they were designed for speed and efficiency, offering players a quick way to engage without the need to join a live table. Savyntsev explains that this design was a deliberate choice, optimizing for minimal friction and maximizing accessibility.

With the introduction of conversational AI, opportunities for game design have expanded. Players now have options beyond silent RNG games and the more demanding setup of live dealer games. Savyntsev points out that the availability of conversational AI alters the gaming equation by providing a middle ground for player engagement.

The global conversational AI market, valued at $14.3 billion last year, is on a steep growth trajectory and is expected to reach $78.9 billion by 2033, with a compound annual growth rate of 23.8% over the next seven years. This technology has become increasingly accessible, facilitating various daily interactions — from meal recommendations to fitness guidance.

In gaming, however, conversational AI plays a more intricate role. Historically reliant on human interaction, the gambling industry continues to thrive amid digital advancements. Despite the success of online platforms, in-person gambling remains robust.

Savyntsev argues that the primary focus of discussions around AI dealers has often been misguided, fixating on whether AI can replace human dealers. He believes this narrow view overlooks innovations that do not aim to mimic human experience. "Many in the industry question if AI can replace human dealers. This overlooks the potential for AI products to offer something distinct, rather than attempting to recreate live experiences through technology."

In May, ICONIC21 launched iDealer Blackjack, which features an AI-powered dealer in a classic RNG seven-seat blackjack format. Collaborating with RAVATAR for real-time avatar technology, the dealer addresses players by name and recalls past interactions, tailoring each gaming session. Savyntsev emphasizes that establishing transparency about the AI format strengthened player engagement.

"We wanted to be clear that players were interacting with an AI dealer. Surprisingly, this honesty removed social friction, enabling players to engage more freely with the experience."

Savyntsev's viewpoint resonates with findings suggesting many people may feel less intimidated by AI than by human dealers. Research shows players often find AI messages more empathetic than those written by humans, adding another dimension to the interaction.

ICONIC21 asserts that products like iDealer are not designed to replace human dealers but to enhance the RNG experience. Savyntsev clarifies, "This is not a live casino replacement. A live casino addresses different player needs and moods, while AI-powered dealers create a unique space within RNG."

The iDealer interface has already been adapted, as seen with the recent introduction of iDealer Boulevard Blackjack, set in a vibrant, coastal metropolis. This development highlights the flexibility of the AI-powered dealer across varied settings, moving beyond a singular gaming experience.

Savyntsev explains, "This adaptability allows operators to go beyond a one-size-fits-all AI experience, integrating personality and brand identity into the product without overshadowing live experiences."

As AI continues to develop within the gaming world, Savyntsev emphasizes the importance of crafting valuable player experiences rather than striving for replication of human interaction. "The industry has focused on whether AI can replicate a human dealer, but the real question is what happens when AI is allowed to innovate its own space."

Ultimately, success in this evolving landscape will rest on understanding where AI can meaningfully enhance the gaming experience and recognizing the boundaries it should not cross.
