The Financial Supervisory Authority of Denmark, known as Finanstilsynet, has ordered Inpay to cease onboarding potential customers due to significant failures in its anti-money laundering (AML) compliance processes. This ban will remain in effect until the authority determines that the company has adequately addressed the identified breaches.
The scrutiny began following an anti-money laundering review of Inpay conducted in March 2026. The findings revealed that the company did not perform proper due diligence on its customers during the onboarding process. Specifically, Inpay’s checks were insufficient when there were changes to customers’ information, and the assessment of the business relationship's nature was inadequate, particularly concerning high-risk clients in the iGaming sector. Additionally, there were noted deficiencies in monitoring transactions of clients engaged in online gaming.
According to the regulator, these compliance issues are prevalent among most of Inpay’s clients, who account for a significant portion of the company’s total transactions. This situation is concerning as many of Inpay's clients are located outside of Denmark and Europe. Finanstilsynet stated that these shortcomings heighten the risk of Inpay being exploited for money laundering and terrorist financing.
Inpay will not be able to establish any partnerships with online gaming companies until it receives regulatory approval confirming that it has rectified the violations outlined by Denmark’s Anti-Money Laundering Act. The company has indicated its commitment to adhering to this ruling and aims to start working with new clients in the iGaming industry beginning July 27.
Existing customers, however, can continue to use Inpay’s services without disruptions. The company clarified that this provisional directive does not affect actions against customers who are already utilizing Inpay’s offerings. Founded in Copenhagen in 2008, Inpay is a payment service provider that specializes in cross-border transactions in both fiat and cryptocurrency.
