November proved to generate record results for Pennsylvania’s gaming market.
According to data provided by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board, the state’s total sports betting handle reached a record monthly high of $935.5 million in November 2024 slightly surpassing results for the same month last year. The handle in November 2024 generated $103.2 million in revenue, up from $49.1 million for the same month in 2023.
November was a busy month for sports fans and Pennsylvania-based teams with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Philadelphia Eagles vying for an opportunity to reach Super Bowl LIX as two of the NFL’s best teams. The NBA and NHL also benefited operators with the Philadelphia 76ers, Pittsburgh Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers in action.
FanDuel and DraftKings lead the pack
FanDuel led all Pennsylvania sportsbooks for handle in November with the Flutter-owned brand closing the month accepting $370.5 million in online wagers. FanDuel led all operators in the state but reported a year-over-year decline in handle. In November 2023, FanDuel closed the month with a $381.8 million handle from its online operations.
Last month, the Valley Forge Casino partner posted $45.8 million in gross revenue from online wagering with promotional credits reaching $9.1 million. By comparison, gross revenue in November 2023 reached $19 million with promo credits at $10.6 million.
DraftKings also took a step back in November handle with the Boston-based operator closing last month with a $242.3 million online handle. By comparison, its online handle in November 2023 reached $250.6 million with revenue at $13.9 million. Despite the drop in monthly handle, November 2024 proved to be a substantial increase in profits for DraftKings with the sports betting giant closing the month with $27.3 million in revenue.
First year of online operations in PA
ESPN Bet launched initial online operations in more than 12 states, including Pennsylvania, in November 2023. That month, the PENN-operated brand accepted $65 million in online wagers with promo credits at $14.8 million. It posted $6.9 million in revenue during that period. ESPN Bet failed to generate the same handle results last month but proved to gain ground with an online handle of $42.1 million. The Barstool Sportsbook rebrand generated $3.4 million in revenue in November 2024 with promo credits at $816,253.
Fanatics closed November 2024 with a $41.5 million online handle, which generated $4.1 million in revenue. That month, the emerging brand reported $2.4 million in promo credits.
Fanatics launched online wagering in Pennsylvania in January as part of its takeover of PointsBet’s U.S. operations. In November 2023, PointsBet posted a $11.7 million online handle with revenue at $963,901. That month, it reported $674,766 in promo credits.
British operator bet365, which launched in July, showcased its ability to compete with major brands in Pennsylvania with a $36.8 million online handle in November. Last month, bet365 generated $3.3 million in revenue with promo credits at $3.1 million.
Pennsylvania is home to a total of 11 online sportsbooks. The Keystone State is also one of America’s largest online casino markets with $18.6 billion in wagers received in November 2024 with $17.7 billion wagers won with interactive slots. Last month, players across Pennsylvania wagered $12.8 billion playing interactive banking tables.
