VicBet was fined AU$130,000 (approximately US$80,000) by the Victorian Gambling and Casino Control Commission (VGCCC) for failing to meet customer care obligations in two separate instances.

The VGCCC’s investigation uncovered two incidents where VicBet failed to uphold its legal and social responsibilities.

In the first instance, the operator offered an AU$1,800 bonus bet to a customer who had requested their betting account be closed in September 2022, resulting in a fine of AU$50,000.

The second violation occurred when VicBet sent promotional materials to a customer who had self-excluded from the platform in March 2020, leading to an AU$80,000 penalty.

Annette Kimmitt, the CEO of Victorian Gambling and Casino Control Commission, mentioned:

Breaches can have serious consequences, not only in terms of punitive actions against the companies we catch out, but for people whose lives are affected by this behaviour.

It is an egregious betrayal of trust, for example, to continue to send marketing materials to a person who has self-excluded from a gambling venue or closed a betting account

Although VicBet was given a chance to justify its actions, the VGCCC determined that disciplinary measures were warranted. This enforcement action coincides with the final months of Annette Kimmitt’s tenure as VGCCC CEO, as she has announced her resignation effective March 2025.
