Massachusetts reported an increase in sports bets of more than $110.0m ($110.0m/PS88.5m/EUR103.5m), month on month.
The sports betting market in Massachusetts reached $642,3 million for March. This is up by 20.7% compared to February, when it was $542.5m. However, this figure didn’t surpass the $651.7m of January.
The month was good for gamblers, as the taxable gaming revenues totaled $46.2m. This is 13.6% less than February’s $52.5m.
Tax contributions to the government also decreased despite the rise in monthly handle. They fell from $10,5m to $9.2m.
Massachusetts collected $127.8m from sports betting since it went live in 2023.
DraftKings is the leader in Massachusetts
DraftKings had a great month with a handle of $323,0m. This is up by 19.7% from its February figure (269.8m). The company’s gaming revenues were $22.7 million.
DraftKings has a huge lead over FanDuel. FanDuel took bets worth $119.4m during the month of March, and made $15.2m.
BetMGM was in second place with $45.5m, followed by ESPN Bet with $34.4m. Caesars Sportsbook and ESPN Bet rounded out top five places with $25.2m and $34.4m. In March, Fanatics took in $23.7m.
Plainridge Park Casino, Encore Boston Harbor, and MGM Springfield all reported sports betting handles of $5.6m, while Plainridge Park Casino and MGM Springfield each reported sports betting handled of $5.0m.
Revenue from casinos also increases in March
Massachusetts’ casino revenues have also increased month over month.
In March, gross gaming revenues (GGRs) at the three state casinos exceeded $111m. This is an increase of 10.4% over February’s $100.6m.
MGM Springfield earned $25.2m, whereas Encore Boston Harbor generated $70.4m. Plainridge Park Casino was last with GGR of $15.4m.
Since the establishment of three casinos, the casino industry has contributed $1.7bn in tax revenue to the state.
