Indiana’s betting volume falls short of the monthly record for March

In March 2018, players in Indiana bet on sports for $500.8 million (PS401.9m/EUR470.1m), an increase on the previous year. This is only a small amount less than last month’s record.

Handle in Indiana was 15,7% more than the $433,0m recorded in March of last year. In February, it was 22,5% higher than $408 7,0m. Total was just 2,5% below the monthly record of $513.7m set in November 2023.

Basketball was the sport that attracted most bets, bringing in a total $167.9m. Indiana is the home of National Basketball Association (NBA) team, Indiana Pacers.

Baseball was the only sport that saw a higher wagering volume, with $9.9m. American Football had a lower wagered amount of $1.7m. Other sports, including parlay betting and other sporting events, accounted for another $173.0 million.

Indiana revenues drop to $39.4m

The revenue was not higher than last year, despite the handle being up. Total taxable gross revenue for the month of March was $39.4m.

The total monthly revenue was only 7.9% higher than the $42.8m of March 2023, and just 3.7% greater than the $39.0m of February.

Indiana doesn’t publish sports-by sport breakdowns of monthly revenues.

DraftKings, Ameristar Casino and Ameristar Casino take the lead again

DraftKings, along with its partner Ameristar Casino, reclaimed the top spot in Indiana for individual operators. In March, the partnership brought in $14.5m from wagers of $186.5m.

FanDuel, Blue Chip Casino and other top performers in February have fallen to second place, though only by a very small margin. The revenue was just $9,481 less than DraftKings or Ameristar Casino. However, the handle reached $153.7m.

Belterra Casino is another FanDuel Partner that posted $3,2m of revenue from $43.5m total wagers.

Hollywood Lawrenceburg, and ESPN Bet were not far behind with $2.2m off $35.1m. French Lick Resort and Bet365 were next with $2.2m from a $31.3m deal.

Harrah’s Hoosier Park & Caesars is the other partnership that generated more than $1 million in revenue. In March, the revenue was $1.9m while handling $30.1m.

Indiana also generated $3.7m of sports betting taxes during this month.
