Germany’s gambling regulator, Gemeinsame Glcksspielbehrde der Lnder (GGL) has opened an official investigation into the advertising operations of Abu Dhabi-backed prediction market ADI Predictstreet according to RND.

ADI Predictstreet made high-profile advertising appearances on pitchside advertising boards during the football World Cup, even though it does not have a German gambling license.

The company was issued with a gambling intermediary licence in Gibraltar earlier this year and the operator was also named FIFA’s official prediction market partner for the 2026 World Cup, yet does not hold a license for offering gambling services in Germany.

The regulator is therefore investigating whether the advertising activities fall within the scope of gambling regulations and whether, based on the company’s appearances in the World Cup broadcasts, this violates the ban on the advertising of gambling services from providers that do not hold a German license.

In addition, GGL is also looking into whether the German population can access ADI Predictstreet’s products.

The prediction market operator, meanwhile, denied targeting Germany. A spokeswoman told the RND it was due to a global sponsorship and media rights package.
