The Dutch Gambling Authority (KSA) has issued a €6.1 million fine to CB Investments B.V., the company behind the FreeBitco.in platform, for offering unlicensed online gambling services in the Netherlands.
An investigation by the KSA revealed that FreeBitco.in allowed users to participate in games of chance using cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin, without obtaining the required license. The platform’s operations violated Dutch regulations aimed at protecting players and ensuring a fair gaming environment.
René Jansen, Chairman of the KSA, stressed the regulator’s commitment to tackling illegal gambling to safeguard vulnerable players and uphold the rules governing the Dutch gambling market. He reaffirmed the importance of enforcing licensing requirements to maintain integrity within the sector.
The penalty highlights the KSA’s ongoing efforts to regulate the market following the legalization of online gambling in October 2021. The authority continues to monitor and penalize operators that fail to comply with Dutch law.
CB Investments B.V. has not yet responded to the fine. The KSA reiterated its dedication to ensuring a safe and lawful gambling environment for all players in the Netherlands.
