Sports wagering revenue and handle in Washington DC fell year-on-year in August, though spending increased month-on-month.
DC players spent $8.1m (£6.5m/€7.6m) on sports betting in August. This was 38.2% down from $13.1m in August 2022 but 5.2% more than $7.7m in July this year.
However gross revenue for the month hit $1.0m, which was down 44.4% year-on-year. This figure was also 28.6% behind the $1.4m generated in July.
Caesars retakes the lead in DC from Gambet
Caesars Entertainment returned to the head of the pack in August with $418,134 in sports betting revenue. The operator also processed $3.0m in total wagers.
Gambet, run by the DC Lottery and powered by Intralot, placed second with $409,593 from $3.0m. Incidentally, Gambet led the Washington DC market in the previous month.
Next was BetMGM with $137,185 in revenue from $1.2m in bets, then Grand Central, which is partnered with Elys Game Technology, on $70,908 off $484,811. FanDuel and its Audi Field sportsbook followed close behind on $66,290 and a $261,902 handle.
Cloakbook rounded off the market as the only operator to post a sports betting loss during August. Total loss stood at $53,659 after taking $113,916 in wagers.
