Caesars Sportsbook is further solidifying its footprint in Washington, D.C.’s gaming market with the launch of self-service betting kiosks at local businesses across the district.
The sports betting operator has deployed the betting kiosks to 48 local businesses after being approved by the Office of Lottery and Gaming in April as the exclusive provider of retail kiosks in D.C. Caesars secured an agreement to provide the self-service kiosks after GambetDC, the district’s previous exclusive sports betting provider, received complaints.
GambetDC was offered in D.C. as part of an agreement with Intralot. In 2019, Intralot agreed to a five-year, $215 million contract with the D.C. Council to power GambetDC.
GambetDC lost exclusive rights to offer sports betting in the district after complaints over poor performance. As a result, FanDuel launched online operations in the district after calls by lawmakers to create an open market. FanDuel was tapped as an exclusive sports betting provider before regulators provided BetMGM and Caesars with market access.
Caesars has now bolstered its reach in the district by being its exclusive retail provider.
“We appreciate the Office of Lottery and Gaming for providing us the opportunity to further our connection with sports fans in our nation’s capital,” said Caesars Digital President Eric Hession. “Our self-service betting kiosks are an excellent addition to our sports wagering options in D.C. Whether sports fans prefer a traditional ticket-in-hand wagering experience or want to simply deposit cash for their mobile app account, our kiosks enhance the premier sports betting experience we offer.”
Caesars’ betting kiosks are available at popular retail locations across the district.
The brick-and-mortar establishments include three BP gas stations, Metro Wine & Spirits, Flagler Market, Citgo, Food Barn and Patron Convenience Store.
Intralot deal under scrutiny
Caesars has brought self-service kiosks to D.C. as Intralot’s contract is under investigation.
According to an Axios report, Attorney General Brian Schwalb’s office has initiated a probe into the district’s lottery and sports betting contract with Intralot. The attorney general’s office requested information on the deal in 2023 and it is unclear the focus of the probe. The probe was initiated amid fallout over contracts and bribery in the district.
